Third Quarter GDS Bookings Show Growth for 2002 vs. 2001

Source: TravelCLICK's comprehensive database, containing data from Amadeus, Galileo, Sabre, and Worldspan - the exclusive source of hotel industry electronic distribution data from the GDSs.

Third quarter 2002 booking performance shows that the number of room nights booked electronically was up 3.3% from the third quarter of 2001. Revenue was up 1%, and average rate suffered by 2.2%.

A key factor driving this year-over-year increase was the results of last year's third quarter, which were affected by reduced booking activity for the 19 days following September 11, 2001.

Orbitz Provides Big Win for The Savoy Group in London
Payback of $90,000 in Only 30 Days

In London, bookings on Orbitz are on the rise. The Savoy Group kicked their electronic marketing efforts into high gear to outperform their competitors and win the number one position among all central London hotels on Orbitz.

Orbitz bookings for the entire London hotel market are growing impressively, registering a 20 percent growth just from July to August of this year. TravelCLICK urged Savoy to aggressively pursue Orbitz' rapidly growing customer base through a targeted media campaign during the month of August - and it paid off immediately. The Savoy Group's revenue from Orbitz quadrupled in one month alone, resulting in $90,000 in incremental revenue.

Following their big win in August, The Savoy Group continued their campaign in September and October. As a result, The Savoy Hotel and The Connaught were two of the three highest revenue generating non-US hotels on Orbitz during the month of October, and The Savoy Hotel alone was among the top 10 in the world based on revenue production.

"TravelCLICK's products have long played a key role in helping The Savoy Group optimize our profits through electronic channels. The combination of actionable data coupled with powerful and timely media options help us consistently outperform the market," said Geraldine McKenna, executive vice president, The Savoy Group. "Orbitz will continue to be a part of our future electronic marketing efforts to target upscale business and leisure travelers coming to London."

The new Orbitz Matrix makes shopping easier for travelers considering the London market. Travelers click on The Savoy tower or banner ads to get more information including location and amenities.
